Green Celebrations

horse--buggy-285px.jpgEnvironmentally aware pairs are opting for botanical gardens over ballrooms. Many couples are having their nuptials on untouched terrain, nature reserves, the beach, parks, art gallery, organic farm, non-profit space, organic restaurant, green-roofed building or their own backyards. Show up in style, Get chauffeured in eco-chic hybrid limousines or opt for the old fashioned horse and buggy or tandem bikes or rickshaws.

Rather than having everyone come to you, consider choosing a venue close to where the majority of your guests live. This will help cut down on the environmental costs associated with travel. For the same reason, hold the ceremony and reception at the same venue and help your guests arrange carpools. If you're looking at a hotel or restaurant, ask if the food director will cater to your organic and local wishes. If not, ask if you can bring in your own caterer, baker, and wine purveyor.

A wide variety of natural locations are possible – which hold special significance for you and your honey? A park, a backyard, an organic farm, campgrounds, national park, winery, beach,or a garden. Consider supporting a location and/or a nonprofit organization that's already interested in or dedicated to green causes: parks, museums, or retreat centers, for example.

An outdoor celebration at a favourite natural spot can add lush beauty and simplify your needs for commercial decorations. Your celebration will be there for future visits on anniversaries to remind you why and how you make a life together in your horse_ad_buggy_xs.jpg'green' world.

ECO CEREMONY

As the focal point of your marriage celebration, your ceremony is a special time to illustrate your appreciation for the environment. Ask your loved ones to participate in your ceremony, involve them in your celebration by asking them to read poems or passages, or play music. Your Celebrant can tell your guests, about what is important to you. If you can create a wonderful, magical celebration that treads a little lighter on the planet, then people will remember it. Too many people still believe environmentalism is all doom and gloom - this is the perfect opportunity to prove them wrong!

ECO TRANSPORTATION

Show up in style, Get chauffeured in eco-chic hybrid limousines or opt for the old fashioned horse and buggy or tandem bikes or cycle rickshaws. Walk between the ceremony and reception (a great opportunity to show off that beautiful green dress). You could ask your guests to car pool or arrange a bus (particularly good if you have your heart set on a winery or bush setting that is far from home).
Offsetting your guests' travel, or asking them to do it as your wedding gift.
