TOPIC: Re-use

01 Aug 2010 17:16 Re:Re-use #6060

Berry containers, also called clamshell containers, are usually made from polystyrene. Polystyrene, plastic #6, is not accepted for recycling in most areas.

Reuse them to pick berrries and herbs from your own garden.

Reuse them for household storage. They are perfect for storage because you can see through them and they have a secure lid. Great in bathrooms - items like tweezers, nail scissors, eye and lip pencil sharpeners. Great for craft, sewing items. Even good in the man's tool room for those small nuts, nails screws and bolts.

Reuse empty plastic containers from takeaways as useful storage containers, great in the office, and garage as you can see through them, too.

Plastic bottles can be used as drinkers for poultry. Insert a drink nipple in the lid. Chook's quickly learn to use the drinkers.

I get a few boxes with my organic online food delivery. I put them out for collection the following week but have also used them in the garden. Put a flat layer when starting a veggie garden and lay soil on top because they block weeds. Reuse a box to make a solar cooker? Ecobox.com + Boxcycle.com will buy empty boxes from you as well!

Yogurt lids under pepper grinders and olive oil bottles. If you keep these items on the counter or in a cupboard the lids will keep the mess in line and will also remind you where the item goes.

if you can get a fresh supply of coconuts- you can live on them they are sooooooo good - the green ones for juice and yogurt and the mature ones for the flesh which comes to a load of waste.
the coconut fiber makes awesome compost.
