Tasmania is a paradise for food lovers. The cool climate and fertile soil produce a range of fruit, nuts and berries with flavours that defy description. Cold ocean currents produce succulent seafoods such as giant crabs, lobster, scallops, oysters, mussels and the delectable abalone that are found around the entire coastline. Salt in the pastures helps develop the flavour of the local lamb and beef is hormone free.
Other specialty products such as wasabi, black salsify, buckwheat, olives, walnuts, blueberries, myrtus berries, Van cherries and much more can be found on roadside stalls and in the wonderful food shops that can be found throughout this island state.
Here we list over fifty of our favourites.
