The original purpose of a Farmers Market was to re-connect the community to people who produce their food for their mutual benefit and enjoyment.

As the markets have grown in number and strength over the past 7 years RFM is taking the next step to assist shoppers to have a better understanding and knowledge of the food they eat. We are introducing information boards on each stall which will tell patrons, where the food is produced, when it is picked, what’s in it, whether it’s organic or not and the food miles it has travelled to the market from and any other information that helps people have a greater connection to their food.

This next step will inform people not only where the food comes from but what is IN their food and who produces it.

As consumers become more discerning about the quality of the food they place on their tables, RFM markets are providing and opportunity for you to talk with producers and learn more about various products, nutrients, uses and innovative recipes on offer at our markets.

The philosophy of a farmers market is not to compete with supermarkets on price but to offer true value to consumers and the farmers who produce and grow the food. Farmers markets offer fair exchange for the time and energy put in by farmers and producers to grow and make top quality foods, which will feed and nourish their customers.

For your convenience the Churchill Island Farmers Market will be open Every Saturday in January 2009. This includes:- Saturday January 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. This will give all those holidaying in the area a wonderful opportunity to get the freshest of local produce every weekend during January.
