Cardboard can be sent for recycling like many other materials or composted for the garden. Repurpose cardboard back into mom earth via compost. Add equal quantities of green (nitrogen) and brown (carbon) waste. Cardboard is a carbon material, so if it's the only brown waste you are adding to your compost it should make up 50% of the contents. It does take longer to break down so mixing is a great idea if you are able to do so easily. If you have a pallet type bin - use it to line the bin (leaving some air spaces) and then add it to the compost heap later when it's started to rot down. How to recycle household cardboard
