lavender_and_oil_338px.jpgUse scouring powders, along with a good helping helping of elbow grease, to remove tough grime on hard surfaces like counter tops, porcelain fixtures, and wall tiles. The essential oils speed things up by dissolving greasy dirt and disinfecting surfaces. They vary in abrasiveness despending on which minerals (such as chalk, baking soda, borax, salt or washing soda) you use. If you prefer soft scrubbers, each recipe explains how to make a paste variation.

Storage. Store the powders in a metal or glass shaker, sealing holes with aluminum foil to prevent the oils from evaporating between uses. To safely make a few holes in the plastic lid, lay the lid top-side-down on a piece of scrap wood. Then use a drill with a 1/8 or 3/16-inch drill bit to make a few holes in it. Drill metal lids the same way, or pierce them using a hammer and nail.

Wearing a dusk mask, place the chalk in a bowl
