Ear candling is a 3500-year-old ancient holistic remedy for build up of earwax practiced by the Ancient Egyptians and the Chinese for many thousands of years with royalty and warriors.
The ear candling candles are different to regular candles in the sense that ear candles are of a cotton cloth that has been soaked in beeswax and rolled to form a hollow tube. One end of the tube is narrow, to fit into the ear canal. The candle is put through a paper plate that sits on the side of your face to protect it from any wax spillage.
One can undertake ear candling at home as it is a fairly easy process and does not require many products. You can also go to centers that specialize in such procedures. A typical session takes around 30 to 45 minutes and is very relaxing. People can put on soft music, use aromatherapy oils to help create a relaxing atmosphere.
It must be noted that due to burning of the candle, ear candling, if not done properly, can be dangerous therefore it is always recommended to get another person to help you. It should never be done alone. Precautions such as the paper plate are a must.
Good quality candles are made from beeswax and there should be little or no spillage due to the formation of the candle. When the candle is lit, convection takes place sucking out all the impurities from the ear. Along with the wax taken out can be pollen, dust, dirt and even small insects or mites.
Although ear candling has not been scientifically proven to help hearing, it can benefit you by getting rid of excess wax, help improve hearing, relieve earaches and sinus pressure. Some even claim, ear candling helps clear the eyes, head and strengthen the nervous system.
Some people are still skeptical of the process of ear candling and its benefits and claim that it does not help long-term hearing. For others it is just a way to get rid of ear wax from their ear and if they can see that congregated wax at the end of a session, no more proof is needed and they continue the treatment.
