earthday-100x110px.jpgEcobites supports the initiative of Earth Day 2008 at PS 58, The Carroll School in Brooklyn on Friday, April 18th. The school will hold its 2nd annual Earth Day Celebration...

It is open to the whole community and it is free. There will be many eco based fun activities.

The first Earth Day celebration took place last year as the follow-up to a 1st graders project involving a blog on the environment and global warming, Little grassroots http://littlegrassroots.blogspot.com/ (It is still alive thanks to this years 1st graders).

There will be many fun activities for families to enjoy:
• Come explore the Earth, inside and out, by going into a giant inflatable Earth Balloon!
• Make a recycled bird house
hand_holding_plant_x-small.jpg• Make a recycled sculpture to take home.
• Relax on the grass in the school garden and read a poem or book about caring for our Earth written by PS 58 student authors.
• You may also view the first grade projects about the environment on display in the lobby.
There will be informational booths as well:
• Learn about alternative forms of energy by visiting with Con Edison.
•  Find out more about the Gowanus Nursery, the C.S.A. and the Local Farmer’s Market.
•  You can even learn how to compost by exploring a worm bin
• Students (3rd ,4th and 5th graders) will run booths on the rainforest, oysters and water conservation.
• Eve Mosher, a New York based artist (http://evemosher.com/gallery/page/statement), will work on an art installation with second graders which will be exhibited on Earth Day.

Purchase a PS 58 reusable shopping bag to cut down on waste.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Lifestraw (http://www.lifestraw.com), an organization that gives personal water purifiers to people in need.
