Construction Birthday Party

CONSTRUCTION PARTY INVITATIONS

Send or email invitations two weeks before the party.
Make your own with card stock paper, cut into hard hat, hammer,
saw... or save the trees and email your invites.

"We're building a great party and you're invited!"

If hand delivery is possible attach your invitations to a wooden toy hammer or other tools or a metal spade. Dress ... wear digging clothes.

CONSTRUCTION PARTY GAMES AND ACTIVITIES

Construction Races

We've provided several construction themed party games. Select the games that best suit the age of your child and party space. For larger parties divide the children into teams. Before the party, mark children's hard hats with strips of coloured electrical tape to separate the teams.

Party Games Tip

If you are hosting a party for young children, we suggest giving every player a small prize after all of the games are played. Birthday parties are not the time to teach life lessons of winning, losing or sportsmanship ... they are just supposed to be fun!

Build-It with Blocks Children will use cardboard "brick" blocks to build a tower as high as they can within a designated period of time or just have boxes and let them build whatever they desire with no time frame!

Dirt Mover Provide each team or player with a kids-safe hand shovel, pail and a pile of dirt. Place the pail a reasonable distance from the pile of dirt. Each player will take a shovel of dirt from the pile to the bucket until the pail is full.
This game can be played as a relay race with team players taking turns, or children will race against each other or just let children have fun without the race aspect!

Construction Zone Obstacle Course Requires a large space or backyard.
Set a up an obstacle course with piles of dirt, tires, stepping stones, caution tape and any other safe items you can think of. To play, the children will go through the "Construction Zone" as fast as they can. They will probably want to run the course several times, again you can just have it set up as a station for free-play!

Tool-Belt Relay  This game is best for children 5 and older.
Divide the children into teams.
Provide each team with one empty tool belt.
Place eco- kid - safe tools for each team (hammer, screw driver, wrench etc) a reasonable distance from the start of the race.

When you say "GO" the first player of each team will put on the tool belt, run to the tools and fill the belt.
Then, run back to their team and pass the filled tool belt to the next player, who will put on the tool-belt and race to empty it and return to the next player with an empty tool-belt. This continues until all players have had a turn. Each player can receive their own tool kit as a prize.
Variation - have older children put on safety goggles, gloves and a hard hat in addition to the belt. -  Don't forget your camera!

Make and Take Construction Activity

Before the party prepare several blocks of wood, dowel pieces, sandpaper, etc
During the party, provide a protected work space where the children can sand with an adults help, hammer their own creation to take home.
Tip: Cut foam sanding blocks into pieces to make small blocks for little hands. These blocks are easier for little hands to manage than pieces of sandpaper.

Activities for Younger Diggers

If your party is for toddlers or preschool aged children these activities may be best. Prepare a few activitiesahead of time and allow the children some "free play".

#1
Before the party create a "construction site" in the yard or sandbox
with trucks, shovels etc.
#2
Set up wood, foam or cardboard building blocks for free-play.
#3
Before the party make a big truck by painting a large cardboard box. Provide bean bags for the children to toss into the "dump truck".

CONSTRUCTION PARTY FAVORS

Fill the hard hats / digging bucket with, organic treats, cookies or fruit and nut balls, stickers or small wood toy trucks and tools.

CONSTRUCTION BIRTHDAY CAKE IDEAS

Fun and easy birthday cakes to match this theme.

Edible Dump Truck

Fill a new clean Toy dump truck with chunks of healthy organic cake, and scoops of fruit ice cream (frozen fruit put through food processor / champion juicer). Top with "sprinkles" - raisins, cranberries or sunflower seeds, coconut or pepitas. Then add your birthday candles.

Construction Zone Cake

Make a sheet cake. Frost it with carob frosting and green frosting (use spinach juice).
Form "dirt mounds with carob frosting and organic cookie crumbs.
Top with small toy wood dump trucks and bulldozers.

Truck Cake

Make a long bar cake and cut off the end and place for the cabin, ice with beetroot and carob frosting and place round wooden discs for wheels.

Construction Site Food

Keep it simple with so much digging going on - Organic apple juice and water. Organic popcorn, beetroot chips, a tasty dip, fresh fruit and a selection of fresh vegetables to dip. Could make some meat balls and serve in a clean digger.

Note: with all this digging, supply a bucket of water and towels for hand washing.
