A Collection of Space Theme poems and star songs to sing at your Stargazing Sleepover Party...
Nine Planets Here are nine planets that we know. Round and round the Sun they go. Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, These are the planets near our star.
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, too. Neptune, Pluto, we can't see you. These are the nine planets that we know. Round and round the Sun they go.
I'm a little rocket Pointing at the moon. Now I'm getting fueled up We'll be ready soon. When it's time to board me Then I'll say: Blast off! Zoom! We're on our way! (sung to I'm a little teapot.)
Space theme songs and poems:
Outer Space by Carol Weston I look up from Earth and try to see The planets looking back at me. I gaze at bright and distant stars And search for Mercury, Venus, Mars.
I squint at the Milky Way way up high And look for Jupiter in the sky. Where are Saturn, Uranus, Neptune? They're far away, high like the moon.
A telescope would be the best For spotting Pluto and the rest. I look for planets in the sky.
Solar System Math by Meish Goldish
What's in our solar system? Lots of things!
Here, let's list them: 9 planets around the sun + moons around most every one + asteroids flying out in space + meteoroids all over the place + comets soaring + dust + gas
= our solar system, a giant mass!
Gravity (author unknown)
The planets in their galaxy, brightly dotted stars I see. In a pattern one by one, revolving fast around the sun. While the earth is spinning, I stay firmly on the ground. Gravity keeps me in place, as I spin around in space.
THE FAMILY OF THE SUN (The Farmer in the Dell) Chorus: The family of the Sun, The family of the Sun. Here are nine planets in the family of the Sun.
Verses: Mercury is hot, And Mercury is small. Mercury has no atmosphere. It's just a rocky ball. (Chorus)
Venus has thick clouds, That hide what is below. The air is foul, the ground is hot, It rotates very slow. (chorus)
We love the Earth, our home, Its oceans and its trees. We eat its food, we breathe its air, So no pollution, please. (chorus)
Mars is very red. It's also dry and cold. Someday you might visit Mars If you are really bold. (Chorus)
Great Jupiter is big. We've studied it a lot. We found it has 16 moons And a big red spot. (Chorus)
Saturn has great rings. We wondered what they were. Now we know they're icy rocks Which we saw as a blur. (Chorus)
Uranus and Neptune We don't know much about. Maybe you will study them And then we'll all find out. (Chorus)
Pluto's last in line. It's farthest from the Sun. It's small and cold and icy too. To land there won't be fun.
The family of the Sun, The family of the Sun, There are nine planets and Now our journey's done.
SOLAR SYSTEM SONG (tune of This Old Man) Planets go 'round the sun. Sing about them everyone.
With a round, round, go around Planets 'round the sun Sing about them everyone.(* chorus)
Mercury, number one. It's the closest to the sun. * Venus bright, number two. Morning and evening star we view.*
Planet Earth, number three. We live on it, you and me.* Planet Mars, number four. Named for a Roman god of war.*
Number five, Jupiter. Colored clouds around it stir.* Number six, big Saturn. Many rings around it turn.*
Number seven, Uranus. It looks blue and green to us.* Number eight, story Neptune. Triton is it's frozen moon.* Number nine, tiny Pluto. Farthest from the sun, you know.
With a round, round, go around Planets 'round the sun Sing about them everyone.
PLANETS SONG (tune of She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain)
There are nine ol' planets movin' round the Sun (round the Sun) There are nine ol' planets movin' round the Sun (round the Sun) There are nine ol' planets movin' There are nine ol' planets movin' There are nine ol' planets movin' round the Sun.
We have Mercury and Venus, Earth and Mars, (Earth and Mars) ... Then come Jupiter and Saturn, giant balls, (giant balls) ...
At the end you'll find Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, (Neptune Pluto)
"HOME, HOME ON THE SOLAR SYSTEM" (SUNG TO THE TUNE OF HOME HOME ON THE RANGE) Oh give me a home, where the planets roam, where the comets and the asteroids play, Where seldom is seen, a human being, and the stars twinkle all night and all day.
Home, home in the solar system, where comets and the asteroids play, where seldom is seen, a human being- and the stars twinkle all night and all day.
A collection of star songs, suitable for all ages:
At evening when I go to bed I see the stars shine overhead They are the little daisies white That dot the meadow of the night
And often when I'm dreaming so Across the sky the moon will go She is a lady sweet and fair Who comes to gather daisies there
For when at morning I arise There's not a star left in the skies She's picked them all and dropped them down Into the meadows of the town
Stars work down on land and sea Stars work also into me So fingers and feet Are nimble and neat
A house the stars have built for me Of silver tones and gold Then come inside with one, two, three To share the gifts I hold
All day long the sun shines bright The moon and stars come out by night From twilight time they line the skies And watch the world with quiet eyes
Softly, softly, through the darkness Snow is falling Meekly, meekly in the meadows Lambs are calling Coldly, coldly all around me winds are blowing Brightly, brightly up above me Stars are glowing
Living light of stars above Crystal light below Light your lantern with your love Let it glow and glow
Good Angel, take me by the hand And lead me through the starry land Stars, sing to me while I'm asleep Your loving watch forever keep That when I wake through all my days I may gladly follow kind and loving ways
