kids_kitchen_283pxAn organic treat to make for your dog or cat, great as a gift for anyone with an animal companion. A great idea to earn some money in the holiday season by setting up a market stall.

Young children will also enjoy helping out in the kitchen, they love to sift and knead dough.

First make sure your pet isn't allergic to the ingredients, then get permission to use the kitchen, and follow this recipe.

YOU WILL NEED

1 1/2 cup organic flour

1/4 cup organic cornmeal

1/2 cup organic oats, put through food processor/ blender

1/2 cup organic milk powder

1/4 cup  grated parmesan cheese

1/3 cup organic coconut oil / organic butter

1/2 cup organic meat-flavoured baby food, warmed

1 organic egg

A rolling pin

Wax paper

Cookie cutters

HERE'S TWO RECIPES (adapt recipes)

1. In a large bowl, combine the first six ingredients.

2. Add the butter / coconut oil and mix well with a fork.

3. Mix in the warm baby food and raw egg.

4. Knead the dough with your hands for a few minutes, then use a rolling pin to roll it out on a wax paper-covered surface. If necessary to prevent sticking, sprinkle  flour on hands, rolling pin, and wax paper.

5. Using cookie cutters, cut dough into different shapes and put the pieces on a microwave-safe plate.

6. Microwave on low power for two minutes, rotate the plate, and continue microwaving for another minute or two. Check often.

7. Let the biscuits cool. Give your pet one or two a day as a treat. Dogs eat them whole, but break treats into smaller pieces for cats.

Treats

3/4 cup free-range chicken broth
1/3 cup organic butter, softened
1/2 cup powdered goats milk
1/2 tsp celtic salt (optional)
1  organic egg, beaten
3 cups organic whole wheat flour

1. Heat chicken broth on stove; remove from heat before it reaches boiling.
2. Combine heated broth and softened butter in large mixing bowl.
3. Stir in powdered milk, salt (optional), and egg.
4. Add in flour 1/2 cup at a time; mix well after each addition.
5. Knead dough for about 5 minutes, adding more flour if necessary to stiffen dough.
6. Pull off tablespoon-size pieces of dough and roll into balls. Alternatively, cut with cookie cutter shapes.
7. Place treats on ungreased baking sheet in a single layer, bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
8. Remove from oven and leave out to dry overnight, to harden and remove moisture.
