Autumn brings cooler days and longer nights after months of long hot days. Although it's sad to know that swimming and fun associated with summer will soon be over, there are lots of fun activities you can do at this time of the year.
Here we explore Leaf Craft - Skeleton Leaves. All the ducks and turkeys and fowl molt in autumn - that is they lose their old worn and sunbleached feathers and grow new thick ones for the coming winter.
There is nothing more magical than the tinkling of wind chimes. Making your own chime set is a great way to be creative, save money, and use up old things no longer serving a purpose around your home. You can, for instance, use washers, keys, tubes, pipes or bottle caps.
For a less metallic wind chime, you could replace the keys with shells. Keep in mind, however, that your materials should be light enough to be hung and can collectively create a good sound.
Cut at least 20 strands of fishing nylon or string, the same length
If you want a two-tier wind chime, cut some longer strands as well
Attach each to a washer, key, or shell by tying with a knot.
Older children (four- and five-year-olds) can try making their own telephone the old-fashioned method - using two cups / two recycled soup cans and a string.
This craft also makes for a good science project, to learn about how sound travels.
You can create this simple pillow to give to Mom on Mother's Day. The pillow can be as plain or as pretty as you desire. The size and the contents can vary too - this one makes a small pillow that's just right for deep restful sleep. The mixture can be made more floral scented - try geranium, rose, lemon verbena - and can also be used for smaller sachets or for potpourri.
