Where once it was thought that taking the moral high ground equalled lower financial returns, today it's not necessarily so. With sustainable funds either on par or outperforming their manistream counterparts. Alex Dunnin - research director for Rainmaker Group (financial services research company) - says there's no reason companies with a good sustainability ethos can't perform as well as others.

"In fact, in the longer term it should hang together better because of its environmental, social and governance considerations". The key, is working with companies trying to do the right thing rather than shunning entire sectors.
Some argue this approach barely differentiates between sustainable funds and traditional ones, but it ultimately comes down to what you think is appropriate and what makes sense for you personally.
