Baking soda can be used to scrub kitchens and baths and to freshen drains, trashcans, and refrigerators. Vinegar and water can be used for glass surfaces, floors, and ceramic tiles.

All you need is 3 % hydrogen peroxide, the same strength you buy from the pharmacy for gargling or disinfecting wounds, and plain white or apple cider vinegar, and a pair of brand new clean spray bottles.

The best results come from using one mist right after the other - it is 10 times more effective than using either spray by itself and more effective than mixing the vinegar and hydrogen peroxide in one sprayer.

In tests run at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, pairing the two mists killed virtually all Salmonella, Shigella, or E. coli bacteria on heavily contaminated food and surfaces when used in this fashion, making this spray combination more effective at killing these potentially lethal bacteria than chlorine bleach or any commercially available kitchen cleaner.

Peroxide is a wonder - if you have a toothache, it fixes the pain quickly, and as you say for disinfecting and cleaning - another wonder job for peroxide and vinegar. The old chopping boards always need a good doing over in the kitchen. It has been tested that your toilet seat can be cleaner than the chopping board and kitchen sponge.

The best strategy is to build up the immune system so you can tolerate any infection, but it sure makes sense to decrease your exposure by reducing the bacterial count in the kitchen.

The highest levels of contamination are found in areas that remain damp, such as the kitchen sponge or dishcloth, kitchen and bath sink drains, and the kitchen faucet handle. Bathroom countertops, bathroom floors, and toilet seats had the lowest bacterial levels.

Ordinary cleaning practices have little effect on bacteria.

Cleaning counters, cutting boards, sinks, faucets and refrigerator handles with peroxide disinfectant on a regular basis lowers the risk of illness.

The main source of disease-causing bacteria in the kitchen is raw meat. In some areas, "almost 100%" of poultry contains organisms such as campylobacter and salmonella that can cause diarrhea or flu-like illness.

Always use a seperate board for raw meat.

Good old cheap vinegar can be great for cleaning and keeping bugs away too.

Toilet bowl: Pour one cup (or a little more) into toilet bowl and let set overnight. In the morning scrub well and flush. Great for hard water stains.

Ant repellant: Spray undiluted vinegar outside door frames and window sills, around appliances, and anywhere else you have ant problems.

Refrigerator: Wash with a mixture of 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar.

Microwave: In a microwave safe bowl, mix 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar. Bring to a rolling boil; this loosens baked on foods and removes odors. Wipe clean.

Lime build-up: Make a paste of 2 TBSP salt and 1 tsp vinegar. Scrub area and rinse.

Soap scum and any heavy cleaning duties: Mix 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 TBSP liquid detergent and enough vinegar to make a thick, creamy texture. Scrub area and rinse.

Counter tops: clean with undiluted vinegar. Makes counters smell clean and sweet.

Window and Glass Cleaner:keep a spray bottle with 1/2 and 1/2 water and vinegar to clean windows and mirrors.

Garden Weed Killer: just pour it on the weeds you want to kill.

Disinfectant
1 teaspoon borax + 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar + 60ml liquid home-made soap / castille soap + 500 ml hot water.

Mix the ingredinets together. To use; store in a labelled spraybottle and spray it on, then rinse and allow to dry.
