Make your own glue

Ingredients

Milk
Baking Soda
Vinegar
Measuring Cup
Measuring Spoons
Paper Towel
Rubber Band

Method

Stir 2 Tablespoons Of Vinegar And Half A Cup Of Milk.

Let The Mixture Rest For 2 Minutes. The Lumps Are Called Curds And The Other Liquid Is Whey.

Fold The Paper Towel And Put It On Top Of The Cup And Push It Down So It Makes A Bowl Shape.

Put The Rubber Band On The Top Of The Cup.

Pour The Curds And Whey Into The Cup With The Paper Towel.

Wait For five minutes And See What Happens.

The Whey Drains Through While The Curds Stay ON Top! Use A Spoon To Scoop Out The Curds Carefully And Put Them Between 2 Dry Paper Towels.

Put The Curd Into Another Cup Stir 2 Teaspoons Of Water In And Add 1 Teaspoon Of Baking Soda

Carbon Dioxide Should Be Rising And You Should Here Bubble Noises. If It Does Not Look Like Glue Add More Water.

DIY HEN-HOUSE
We had great fun building a smart new chookie penthouse in Chooksville, we decided this time around, that we did not want another eyesore of a chookyard, but a neat and tidy structure with easy-clean laying and roosting areas.

Built a series of nest-boxes about 10 cm off the ground all joined together, but with a dividing partition between each (for the girls' privacy whilst concentrating). The floor of the nests are bird wire, with a suitable curvature to hold plenty of fresh straw. With steep sloping-forward skillion roof on the nests, to discourage the girls from perching above and 'messing' into the nests. There are 10 cm wide ramps complete with tacked-on grips for nests. The hens have great fun trotting up and down these litle ramps.

The other bit of finesse is a lightweight shallow tray at ground level underneath the roosts, which is just the right size to catch all the droppings (we found the stainless steel tray at the local tip).It is easy to slide out and scrape or hose off the manure straight into a compost heap.We do this every 3 days, and the place is as sweet as a daisy.
The best part of all this new apartment construction was it only cost for the tray $5 from the tip and for a few nails and bolts. The rest of the material we re-couped from the old Chooksville. The chooks are let outside to free-range in the afternoon and love their new nesting boxes.

Be Green, your new chookie penthouse in Chooksville, sounds wonderful. When we recently moved to our new place our girls and 2 boys were not that happy, although they had a lovely big Hilton Hen House. We made them real happy by doing a trip to the dump and picking up old grass catchers from discarded lawn mowers for their nest boxes and they love them, and they are so easy to keep clean and to top up wih straw.

We try to have a plastic-free household as possible. My big concern was the amount of plastic wrap, with a bit of help from google, I found these great sandwich wrap alternatives patterns, we have made some and no longer need to buy that horrible plastic glad / sandwich wrap.

This rainwater harvesting vertical terrace is the brilliant idea of Ontario College of Art and Design Student Michael Tampilic and has been entered in the Rocket 2008 Industrial Design Graduation Show and Competition. The terrace connects up with a downspout from your house and stores water in a large tank to continuously water the plants over long periods of time. It does this by using cotton wicks to transport the stored water by capillary action. Not only is this great for saving water in a desert environment like most of us in Arizona live in, but it looks awesome and you don’t have to worry about watering.
